Since 2017, Elaine has been the proud sponsor of budding young showjumper, Kirsten Macpherson. Kirsten was Elaine’s riding instructor when Elaine took up riding, but when she decided that it wasn’t the sport for her, she became Kirsten’s mentor and sponsor.
This has taken Elaine on a journey that she never expected and she now owns two horses who Kirsten trains and competes with.
Typhoon came to Kirsten on loan after her own horse very tragically passed away. He’d had a reputation of being uncontrollable and somewhat headstrong, and although had some success over his lifetime at shows such as Hickstead and the Blair International Horse Trials, he’d never had a solid relationship with his rider. That is, until he met Kirsten! They rapidly became the ‘dream team’ and so Elaine made the decision to buy Typhoon so that they would never be parted.
Today, he’s in semi-retirement and, although he’s considered very much an old man at the age of 22, he still loves competing in his veteran classes and he’s a much loved part of Kirsten’s family.
When we knew that Typhoon would be close to retirement, we decided he needed a successor, and so Monty joined the Milne Wealth Management team to take on that role.
Monty is developing well and wowing the judges with his unusual looks as he enters the world of competing. We’ll know which disciplines Monty will compete in as time goes on and eventually, he can be saddled and trained.
Typhoon and Monty live an idyllic life in the Angus countryside on the estate of the Bowes-Lyons, the family of the late Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, and are cared for by Kirsten and her family.
